IIona Ostrowska (Queen of Coal) is an artist known for creating unique jewelry from coal. 15 years ago, she founded a pioneering workshop where she invented and sold various products made of hard coal, such as necklaces, bracelets, rings and brooches. Her work gained popularity not only in Poland, but also in Italy, France and Belgium, where her work enjoyed great interest.
Ilona Ostrowska’s jewelry is distinguished by the use of hard coal, which she calls a „black diamond”. It highlights the dual nature of the material – both brittle and strong – making it a suitable symbol for her designs. Additionally, she runs workshops during which participants can learn to make their own jewelry from coal under her supervision. Her successes included a unique gold and coal ring for Elżbieta Penderecka, made for the Guido Historic Mine in 2013, several engagement rings and an underwater jewelry session with coal with Rafał Makieła.
In 2023, she added small spatial forms made of coal and furniture to her projects.
